Estrada working with US Treasury and TT Govt on FATCA
Estrada’s response comes following a press conference yesterday by Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, on Government’s need for an extension for FATCA arrangements for the agreement to be put in place.
In an emailed response to members of the media as to whether or not the Government would be granted the extension its seeks, Estrada said, “The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has submitted to the Treasury a detailed explanation and step-by step plan that Trinidad and Tobago intends to bring the FATCA agreement into force.
“I will continue to work with Treasury representatives and Government of Trinidad and Tobago officials to assure that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago follows this plan and continue to work in good faith towards implementing the FATCA agreement.” He added that he was confident that TT and the US would have an, “increasing number of active and engaged partnerships, across a broad range of areas, to include regional security, economic development and trade and human rights.” Estrada is currently in Washington, DC, US for a meeting with the Department of State, Congress and the White House.
Estrada added that he had hoped that the legislation would have been resolved before his trip.
He added that the concerns of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago were expressed to US Treasury representatives. The release, however, did not state specifically whether or not the country would be granted the extension.
