Scotiabank Women Against Breast Cancer 5k on Oct 8

Three seperate 5k events will take place at Lowlands, Tobago; Skinner Park, San Fernando; and Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain. An aerobics warm-up at each venue will begin at 3.30 pm, followed by the 5k event from 4 pm.

This year, the event, which is themed “Making Strides” will feature new innovations to enhance the race experience.

The race is sold out in Port of Spain and only a few spots are available for the San Fernando race.

San Fernando participants can register via walk in registration at the Scotiabank Marabella Branch. In Tobago limited spots are available and persons can call 781-9115.

For the past 17 years, the Scotiabank Women Against Breast Cancer 5k has seen increased participation and now attracts over 6,500 participants at each race venue.

The highly anticipated event draws the support of individuals, running teams and leading corporate entities, generating immense attention for breast cancer education and women’s health in TT.

Named the Best Digital Bank in TT by Global Finance Magazine for the past six years, Scotiabank has introduced digital innovations to improve the experience for participants. Scotiabank has partnered with Race Roster, an international online platform that allows participants to easily sign up for the 5k, as well as receive race information and timely updates.

Of even greater significance, this innovation also allows the public to both contribute to the TT Cancer Society and pledge support for a race participant through the Race Roster website. “Making Strides” branded t-shirts and signature tote bags can also be purchased on the site to support the cause.

During the launch, which was held recently at Scotiabank’s Corporate Booth at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Anya M Schnoor, senior vice president and head, Caribbean East and South, Scotiabank, emphasised the significance of the Scotiabank Women Against Breast Cancer 5k to the Scotiabank Foundation.

“Our main objective is to advance breast cancer awareness and spur an improvement in women’s health. As we grow, it is heartening to know that we are truly making an impact,” Schnoor stated.

“Hence, we have chosen the theme ‘Making Strides’.

“The theme not only speaks to the great progress of this movement, but also, and most importantly, it evokes a sense of hope.” “‘Making Strides’ is an illustration of the physical and emotional movement that will be taking place at the event,” she continued.
