Man crushed to death

Shane Diaram of Forest Reserve was employed as a lorry man with Dansteel Limited at South Trunk Road, La Romaine for the past seven years. Reports are that shortly after midday, a forklift was loading steel beams on a truck while Diaram was fixing a wooden palette when one of the beams fell on him.

He was rushed to the hospital but was already dead by the time he got there.

At the family’s home at Forest Reserve in Fyzabad yesterday, Diaram’s mother was too distraught to speak with Newsday. His uncle, Anthony Manorath, 59, revealed that Diaram’s father, Rooplal Diaram, was killed in a similar fashion at San Francique Road, Penal 33 years ago, also at the age of 36.

Diaram, who was involved in a common-law relationship but had no children, was described by Manorath as a kind and loving person and an angel who was willing to help everyone. “Accidents do happen,” Manorath said. “It is sad.

The entire family is hurting.”
