Arson suspected in Monkey Town fire

The owner, Clifford Smith recently died and investigators said there have been conflict over who ought to occupy the house from people within the area. A report was recently made to Tableland Police Station about threats a person received from another over the house. The house has been unoccupied since Smith’s death but was being maintained by his relatives.

A police report stated that at about 10.10 pm on Sunday, appliances from the Princes Town Fire Station responded to a report of a fire in Monkey Town and upon arrival were able to successfully extinguish the blaze.

They returned to the station only to receive a call at 1.53 am yesterday, that the building was once again on fire. When the officers arrived they found the entire building engulfed in flames. It was completely destroyed.
