AG: Sando waterfront project fast tracked
However, in a telephone interview yesterday, Al Rawi said several Government ministries were involved in the project which is under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Planning. “The project is provided for under the Ministry of Planning and the Minister of Planning is the driver of that aspect and there are several entities that are engaged in this project including PTSC (Public Transport Service Corporation), which falls under the Ministry of Works and Transport, the San Fernando General Hospital which is under the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Housing which deals with the Land Settlement and other aspects.
“So I can understand that Ms Bartlett may not have been familiar with that. However, she and the rest of the country will see that very shortly,” Al Rawi said. He observed that some persons may have assumed that the project had been stalled but noted it was being “fast tracked and we will certainly be doing what others have just left in the design stage, we will be performing that this year.” “The note to Cabinet finalising the approval should be brought in a matter of a week or two and then the green light will go. But the individual elemental aspects, housing, other construction aspects, those are all moving ahead already so it’s already started if I can put it that way,” he said. He noted that project was the victim of “analysis / paralysis” which had delayed its start.
