Look out for UNC tactics

The Opposition would now get a chance to reply to the austerity measures which are needed at this time in our economy.

We know it is the job of the Opposition to oppose most things in defence of the people.

Sometimes you can take this mandate too seriously.

I have witnessed last year during the Budget debate the Opposition UNC appeared to be trying to shut down the country.

When Parliament broke up into committee stage to examine each item on the fiscal package, the Opposition seemed to me to have ulterior motives.

It knew the Government had a time frame to pass the Budget and it was trying to frustrate the process.

Once the Budget is not passed within a particular time frame the entire country would shut down. The Opposition knows this.

So, I call on Speaker Bridgid Anisette-George not to be blindsided or provoked by the Opposition so that it could cause the Budget process to collapse the country.

Its main aim is to get back to the polls. Thank God we do not need a special majority to pass the Budget.

I dare the Opposition to stage a walkout so a final decision on the Budget could be taken in absentia.
