Keep an eye on Royal Miss

ROYAL MISS showed signs of improvement to take laurels away from some of her more seasoned campaigners on the gallops course at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday morning. The daughter of Formal Gold/Her Majesty Rose, who skipped Saturday’s engagement after it was removed from the turf course came out yesterday and together with stablecompanion Naturelly Classy, zipped over 1000 metres in 1:01.16 seconds. The American-bred three-year-old with only one win to her name from eight starts, matched her older companion stride for stride all the way before edging slightly ahead close to the winning pole.

Stewards Cup entrants Invincibility and Sugar Mike, and impressive Jamaican sprinter Supremely Satisfied also sent sparks flying in their work over the same distance. Invincibility who recently joined trainer Jack Debideen’s barn went at a moderate pace for the first 400 metres and quicken from the 600 metres marker to register 1:02.07 seconds. Sugar Mike never appeared to be under any pressure, laying out with regular rider Brian Harding in the irons to clock 1:05.14 seconds. Supremely Satisfied who captured the Betting Levy Board Sprint Classic at last month end enjoyed his spin with Millenium Reign.

The three-year-old son of Law Of The Sea/Midnight Angel was stronger of the pair at the finish in 1:02.30 seconds. Pave The Way, the champion two-year-old juvenile of last season, seems to be standing up to preparations again after a long lay-off through injury. The Grant Lourenco-trained colt who went wrong earlier this season went to re-acquaint himself with the boxes and paced over 1200 metres with an un-named son of Sporting Green in 1:25.43 seconds. Phantom Bidder has been registering some good times over short trips. And the he John O’Brien-trained American-bred horse schooled from the boxes and sprinted 400 metres in 23.25 seconds, best time for that trip on the morning. Also sharpening up over that same 400 metres distance were French Academy (24.74), Nowornever (24.22), Rusalka and Fresh Wings (24.60), and Wild Life in 24.66 seconds.
