Thunder showers across the country

According to chief executive officer of the Office of Disaster Preparedness, Dr Stephen Ramroop, “It is just bad rainy season weather.” In a telephone interview, Ramroop said the thunder shower was nothing out of the ordinary during the rainy season.

He said it was just one of those days during the rainy season the country experienced a lot of rainfall, and is expected to have a lot of flooding throughout the country.

“It is nothing out of the ordinary just a lot of heavy rainfalls in certain areas that will lead to flooding, possible landslides and thunderstorms and it is just the usual thing during the rainy season, and citizens should be careful.” He further added, “We can see what is happening in the Bahamas and Florida, everyone is seeking precautions. It is the rainy season, don’t wait until the rain comes, take precautions now.” He also indicated that TT is not under any storm watch or warning.

With the inclement weather pattern across the country, several rivers overflowed their banks causing street flooding, trees falling and also cutting off access to roads in the East-West corridor.

Citizens took to social media posting photos of affected flooded areas from across the country.

Some of the affected areas posted on social media include Diego Martin, City Gate, Morvant, Barataria, and parts of the Priority Bus Route (PBR).

The heavy showers started at about 11.45 am and stopped at about 1.30 pm, coupled with lightning and thunder.
