Sleeping mom smothers baby

Next to the baby was his (the newborn) mother who was asleep. On realising his son was barely breathing, the man awoke his wife and they both rushed the babe to the Chaguanas Health Centre.

Police said that despite attempts to revive the baby, he died shortly after arriving at the centre. A report was made and police officers later interviewed the deeply traumatised mother.

Officers said that the death of the baby is being deemed an accident and no further investigation will be carried out. Officers extended their condolences to the Felicity family and offered counselling to the grieving parents via the Police Victims Support Unit.
