Murder in Beetham Gardens
The victim Kendall Alexander, 23, was at 18th Street in Beetham Gardens when gunshot rang out yesterday at about 6.30 am. Residents, on checking, discovered Alexander’s body in a pool of blood on the side of the roadway.
His father Kevin Greaves said that his (Kendall) mother Natalie is in hospital preparing for surgery on her lower back. Up to press time, she was unaware of her son’s murder.
“Oh God! How am I supposed to tell his mother this now,” the man cried. “Kendall was at home last night good, good. Only to wake up this morning to get a call and hear my son dead. He did not deserve to die like this! My son was not a shooter, or a murderer or anything.
He did not deserve this.” Newsday was told by the victim’s girlfriend that he went to wash clothes early yesterday morning at his uncle’s house, which is near to his 18th Street home.
When he was heading to the house, gunmen ambushed and shot him multiple times. Police sources told Newsday that Alexander had been previously charged but relative said he was arrested for possession of marijuana. Relatives also explained that he had grown up in the Beetham area, but moved to Belmont only to move back to Beetham in June. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Alexander’s body at the Forensic Science Centre in St James next week. Alexander’s death raises the murder toll for the year to 351.
