Pork and parang fiesta
Scores of parang lovers filtered into the La Soledad venue, with the sole intention of catching the Christmas spirit through music.
TT ’s number one competition band, Los Alumnos De San Juan, was the first performance to really get the crowd moving. They started their set with the usual self-titled intro, before belting out numerous popular traditional and soca parang favourites.
Songs included, “La Parranda”, “La Dedicacion”, “Anita”, “Every Christmas”, a dance medley and a calypso medley.
Mucho Tempo also gave a performance.
After a small interlude by DJ Sensational Sammy, soca parang king, Irwin Reyes Johnson, better known as Scrunter, really got the party excited.
Scrunter, who was recently awarded the Humming Bird Medal Gold at this year’s Independence Day Awards Ceremony, only had to make one call for party goers to come forward.
“Piece ah Port”, “That Eh Wuking Here Tonight”, “Home Made Wine”, “Madame Jefferey”, “Eat Something”, “Oil In de Coil” and “Leroy”, were among the many favourites he performed.
Scrunter would be hosting his annual “Pork Dance” at The Forest, Sangre Grande, in December.
The tradition at that event is to give one lucky patron a live pig. In years gone by, the pig was won by whoever caught it.
