Seniors need help with TTEC e-bill
On September 30, TTEC launched the e-bill service which now allows customers to make bill payments using TTEC’s secure Customer Web Access (CWA) portal. According to TTEC, switching to e-billing means no more missed due dates, and no risk of disconnection due to non-payment, since customers will no longer need to wait to receive a paper bill in the mail.
Additionally, TTEC stated the paperless processing of over 460,000 bills provides a number of benefits which includes convenience for customers to access information anytime, anywhere from across many devices.
Paperless billing, TTEC indicated also reduces paper waste and saves energy associated with printing, transport and delivery.
Speaking to Sunday Newsday, 85-year-old grandmother of ten, Joanne Ramdass said while times have changed, many elderly persons are being left behind.
“Every day there is something new coming out. I can’t keep up with technology.
I don’t know how to use the internet, so I would not know how to pay my TTEC bill online,” Ramdass explained. She said she often hears her grandchildren discussing paying bills online.
“I am nearly 90-years-old, this digital thing is not for me, but I really like the idea of paying your TTEC bill online,” she admitted. Irma Mitchell, 90, of Gasparillo said it was a great idea but she also cannot use the internet.
“It will be very difficult for me and everyone else like me,” Mitchell said. “I would need a lot of help to use the internet so I won’t be paying any bills online.” Marisa Martin, 67, of Point Fortin said she was not surprised by the introduction of the e-bill system as many institutions were becoming digitalised.
“I agree with this move by TTEC, but is old people like myself would have a hard time accessing the e-bill system.
I cannot use the internet,” she said.
Martin suggested TTEC should host a workshop for elderly persons demonstrating the basics of using the internet and accessing the system. Windsor Mangaroo, 75, of Princes Town said the e-bill system would not be beneficial to pensioners. “It is not any fault of TTEC that many elderly people cannot use the internet, but that is just how it is,” he said. Mangaroo said the electronic bill service was a brilliant initiative.
