Decomposing body found in Maraval
Police believe the woman, who was known to work on Murray Street, Woodbrook, was murdered and her body dumped in the bushy area.
The police assisted by fire officers pulled the body, clothed in a dress, from the precipice. Investigators spotted what were believed to be stab wounds about her body.
She was identified by her tattoos.
An autopsy is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, to confirm the cause of death and to ascertain whether she was sexually assaulted.
Newsday was told the woman was last seen by a male companion at their home in St James on Wednesday, but had not returned home since then. She was also seen by other individuals over the weekend.
Just before 3 pm yesterday, people related to Candian Boisson, who died in a vehicular accident on the same spot on Morne Coco Road earlier this year, went to the area to pay their respects when they noticed a foul stench coming from the bottom of the precipice. On checking they saw the decomposing body in a foetal position wrapped around a tree.
Police and emergency services were immediately contacted and a party of officers of the Western Division, including Sgt Perry, responded and visited the scene.
A District Medical Officer pronounced the woman dead and ordered her body removed to Forensics.
Investigations are ongoing.
