TTEC retirees picket OWTU
About 40 retirees held up placards ouside Paramount Building on Circular Road, San Fernando, during which they complained about the union’s inability to bring pressure to bear on TTEC to align their pension payments to the collective agreement.
TTEC retirees’ president, Leslie Lynch, said that retirees were promised that they would have received an additional payment of $500 per month, following the signing of the 2006-2010 collective agreement between T&TEC and the union. He said that each retiree was supposed to have received a backpay of approximately $26,500, but this had not materialise, except that sums of $3,000 and $5,000 were paind, whilst some retirees had not received any payments.
Lynch said, “Right now, retirees are living on the 2003 pension, with some receiving even less than the government pension. The cost of living is going up and we need to have this matter settled.” He said that the OWTU has a reputation of championing the cause of its members, and, he was indeed surpirsed that the unions seemed to have stalled on the issue. “We are confident that we would be able to settle this matter very soon,” he said.
