Mystery of the spider web tattoo

But they are appealing to members of the public to assist them with information on anyone with such a tattoo who has gone missing.

The remains were found on Thursday in the forests in Penal by farmers who were tending to their crops of pigeon peas.

Newsday was also told that a blue piece of cloth found “rolled up” on the remains and which could be remnants of underwear will also help as investigators say they may have to go the route of DNA identification by which DNA samples sourced from the remains would be compared with samples in the police’s DNA database in the hope of making a match. Sources said that they are not ruling out the possibility that the body may be that of Ria Sookdeo who was abducted more than three weeks ago, although her relatives have said it is not her since she does not have any tattoo markings on her body.

On September 22, the hairdresser from Penal was abducted shortly after she dropped off her two children at their school. No ransom demand has been made and she remains missing up to press time.

Police said yesterday that there are reports of several women who have gone missing in recent times.

Sookdeo was abducted in Picton Village located on the outskirts of San Fernando.

A report stated that Sookdeo, 34, was about to enter her red-coloured Nissan X Trail SUV when she was dragged out from behind the driver’s seat by a man dressed in police uniform. She was bundled into his vehicle - a black Nissan X Trail SUV - which sped off.

As part of investigations, a woman described as a close friend of Sookdeo and a policeman who is currently on suspension, were detained for questioning but have since been released. Police earlier this week released a sketch of a man who is wanted in connection with Sookdeo’s abduction. “We will still compare all the DNA samples of missing persons we have in our data base as we proceed with our investigations,” a police source, close to the investigation said.

Police reported that on Thursday morning that farmers tending to crops in their garden at Bunsee Trace, Penal Rock Road, stumbled upon a body in an advanced stage of decomposition. Speculation became rife that it might be that Sookdeo. Since the disappearance of the young mother, police along with friends and relatives have conducted extensive search in forested areas like Morne Diablo, Penal, Barrackpore and Icacos.

According to officials of the Criminal Intelligence Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service the man wanted in connection with Sookdeo’s abduction is described as being of muscular build, five feet, eight inches tall and between the age of 30 to 35 years, with brown eyes. He has unkempt beard and side burns. Three days after Sookdeo’s abduction, a police sketch of a person wearing a cap with the word POLICE written on it, was circulated.
