Bishop’s High School impress at Scotiabank t/tennis

Bishop’s High School performed well in the doubles categories as they reached all three finals available. The students from Tobago recorded victories in the Boys and Girls Under-15 doubles categories while they were defeated finalists in the Boys Under-18 Doubles. Up to press time, the Boys and Girls Under-15 and Under- 18 team categories reached the semi-final round with Trimont College and Providence Girls being favourites to win the Under-18 teams event.

Leading the charge for Trimont College is Luc O’ Young and Jessie Dookie while Chelsea Fong was fancied to lead her school Providence Girls to victory.

The format for the girls teams was - A vs X; B vs Y; Doubles; A vs Y ; B vs X, and the team to win three matches will be the winners. Whereas, in the boys, the format was - A vs X; B vs Y; C vs Z; A vs Y; B vs X, and the team to win three matches will be the winners.

The top eight players in the Boys and Girls Under-11 and Under-13 singles qualified for the knockout stages which will be held in Tobago on November 5. They are - N O’Young, S Ramsumar, C Canterbury, S Humphreys, S Ali, Y Mc Intosh, A Singh and A Mosely (Boys Under-11); R Sterling, H Atwaroo, J Nidhan, P Khellawan, I Taylor, E Maharaj, L Boodhan and A Roopnarine (Girls Under-11); M Dookie, N Lee, V Sammarine, V Ramphalie, E Persad, J Ackim, A Jairam, J Dass (Boys Under-13); A Prashad, M Wang, A Sinanan, K Solomom, K Sootim, R Boodhan and L Maharaj (Girls Under-13).

This year’s edition had upwards of 50 schools registered and a total of 200 entrants.

In addition, there was an inclusion of the Boys and Girls Under-9 single categories.

RESULTS - Boys Under-15 Doubles: 1. D Douglas/J King - Bishop’s High School (Tobago) #1; 2. M Walcott/J Kerr - Bishop’s High School (Tobago) #2.

Girls Under 15 Doubles: 1. J De Gannes/ S Johnson - Bishop’s High School (Tobago); 2. S Maharaj/S Ramtahal - Naparima Girls High School.

Boys Under 18 Doubles: 1. L O’Young/J Dookie - Trimont College; 2. S Mitchell/D Stephens -Bishop’s High School (Tobago).

Girls Under 18 Doubles: 1. N Boodoo/D Dick - Naparima Girls High School; 2. C Fong/B Lee - Providence Girls Catholic School.
