Local ‘babes’ in Spotlight Saturday

Eight “babes” is set to line up for this year’s running of the 1200 metres Stud Farm Association; s Breeders Stakes.

Heading the list will be Discouldrun who had two starts, winning on debut and being runner-up next time out.

Also in the fray will be Cactuis Treasure, a winner on debut along with Gold Express who followed him home in third.

The Arima Race Cl;ub has framed an eioght-race programme for Saturday.

Missing from the day’s racing, however, will be Ronald “Tiger” Ali who leads the jockeys standings with 39 winning rides.

Ali has been grounded by the stewards, but champion jockey Prayven Badrie who trail by four, has been booked for six rides, same as the in-form Sheldon Rodrigo.

Appren tice Ridge Balgobin who had a double on Saturday last, has five booked mounts just as Wilmer Galviz who is returning after a two-week hiatus.

Meanwhile, trainer Glenn Mendez who saddled three winners on Saturday, was hit with two fines totalling $1,000 for failig to present Gold Express for pre-raceday veterinary inspection and for withdrawing Mr Foster.

Also hit by the stewards were Jose William- Samaroo who was fined $500 for the withdrawal of McQuade, and Harriram “Pepsi” Gobin who was also fined $500 for failing to present The Tactician for lasix.
