EMSU head says NUGFW treated lifeguards badly
However, EMSU president, Jamiele Sydney said part of the reason was because NUGFW did not deal specifically with the laws covering emergency service personnel, so they could only do so much in representing lifeguards because of the union’s constitution.
Sydney, a licensed paramedic, explained that his union represents emergency personnel including monthly and daily paid workers such as hospital staff, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), and lifeguards. He noted the union was formed in October 2015, certified in April 2016, but was yet to be recognised to negotiate with the Chief Personnel Officer (CPO).
The EMSU has planned to bring the needs of the lifeguards to the attention of the Ministry of National Security on Monday October 31 at 9am in the form of a protest in front of the Ministry on Abercromby Street.
