MSJ goes after two LG corporations

“What people are saying to us in Arima and Point Fortin and in other parts of the country is that the Government has been a disappointment but at the same time the UNC is not an alternative and that is a reality,” Abdulah said, adding, “And we are building from the ground up block by block and in this election we are building with Arima and Point Fortin and possibly one other and in the next Local Government election we are sure we will be able to cover Trinidad and so into the general elections.” “We have to build trust and confidence with citizens by working and struggling with them,” he added.

He said some of the issues raised in both corporations was the absence of proper roads and electricity while unemployment remained a major concern for the people of Point Fortin.

“In the poverty report Point Fortin scores highest in terms of poverty, 35.6 percent lives under the poverty line and although Atlantic LNG has produced huge amounts of revenue for the Government, foreign exchange and yet more than one-third of people live under poverty line,” Abdulah said, adding, “people in Point call it the borough of sorrows.” He said the MSJ has already held several cottage meetings at both corporations and has identified candidates for the respective electoral districts with the formal screening process expected to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.

“We are on stream with those two corporations, we have been doing a lot of work on the ground and expect that burgesses in Arima and Point Fortin who are not happy with the way in which those corporations have been run and the representation they have been getting will recognise that the MSJ candidate will provide them with better representation in a way that they have not experienced for very many years,” he said.
