87 lots for SFA Yearling Sale 2004

THERE have been 87 lots nominated to go into the ring at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on November 28, day of the Stud Farm Association Yearling Sales. And turfites are expected out in their numbers with their cheque books, seeking to spot and purchase a future champion. Among the lots is a full brother to speedster Java Takeover from Bob’s Farm in Chaguanas, owned by the affable Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj. This colt by Java In Flight-Indian Takeover was foaled on February 16 last year. There will be 12 lots from Maharaj’s farm on show, all of them sired by Java In Flight. And there are a number of fashionably-bred youngsters set to strut their stuff in the ring in front of the auctioneer. Included among them is a chestnut filly by Still Alert who still holds the track record for 1150 metres of 1:07.2 seconds.

This one is out of another speedster Solar Wind and will be among the 14 lots produced by the Ortinola Stud. Still Alert has another foal, a chestnut colt out of Genset from the Laurel Stud who will be bringing just two lots to the sale this time. The Poon Tip’s Stud which has produced several classic winners will bring to the sale 13 lots including a well-bred chestnut filly by Freshly Squeezed-Speedtrap. And the Rancho Caballero Stud which will bring to the sales the largest contingent of foals — 15, will have the first offspring of former champ Infallibility, a chestnut colt out of Lallapaloosa. Also from this stud farm will come yet another foal by Still Alert, this time a bay colt out of Smoothawn. Only one foal will come from the Scott’s Stud this year and that is a fashionably-bred bay colt by Windy Hill out of Safety Deposit.
