Astonishing Alleyne annihilates TT bowling
Barbados, overnight on 20 without loss and an overall lead of 94, declared on 317 for two to set the hosts a daunting target of 392. Yannick Ottley’s team were intimidated to 57 for three after 21 overs at close of play.
After making 84 against Leewards and 88 in this first innings, Alleyne’s emphatic knock off 214 balls boasted 24 fours and two sixes. He forged a second-wicket partnership of 216 with Shamarh Brooks, who clubbed an unbeaten 76 off 135 (seven fours). Pride started the day quickly asserting dominance with Alleyne and Omar Phillips particularly harsh on spinner, Jon Russ Jagessar, with a couple fours setting the tone early on. The visitors kept the run-rate consistently over four with Alleyne also treating pacer, Marlon Richards, to the leg-side ropes twice en route to his 50. Phillips also got in on the act lofting Richards overhead as well for four. With the score on 101 after 26 overs, Imran Khan was introduced and his first ball scalped Phillips leg-before for 40 off 84 (seven fours).
This didn’t deter Alleyne who continued his assault on Richards with a straight drive and flicks for four in the 30th. Brooks proved an ideal partner as he cut two more fours off Khan and pulled Richards for yet another boundary to take affairs to 136 from 33.
Alleyne scored fluently with Khan now firmly in his sight and after dispatching him past point and cover, he placed the spinner through extra cover to signal his century off 140 balls with 16 fours. Barbados coasted to the 200-mark in the 52nd over with Alleyne proceeding to launch quickie Roshon Primus for a straight six before sweeping Ottley for four to celebrate his 150 (22 fours, one six).
Brooks continued his aggression towards Khan and Ottley, whom he pulled for a maximum to head to tea at 279. With gloomy skies encroaching, Pride declared in the 72nd over when Alleyne departed to Richards.
Red Force began miserably with Khan flashing wildly off Roach to get caught behind for a first-ball duck.
Kyle Hope (26, five fours) and Yannic Cariah (25, five fours) took the score to 50 but both lost their stumps in the space of six runs to leave Red Force with an uphill final-day battle from 10 am today
