Imbert shares good cheer to 200 in need
The distribution was held at Imbert’s constituency office at Morne Coco Road, Maraval.
Imbert told the gathering that it was his 24th hamper distribution having started since 1992. Among the recipients was 100 year-old Audrey Glasgow-Williams from Belle Vue.
“Mr Imbert always by me,” she told Sunday Newsday.
Viola Nicholas, 47, from River Estate said it was the first time she received a hamper and “it means a lot”.
She explained that she also planned to help others from what she received. Nicholas said she was pleased knowing that Members of Parliament think about the less fortunate “not only at election time but all the time”. She added that Imbert visits her community “ever so often”.
Fitzroy Roberts, 59 from Dibe Road, Long Circular, said that the hamper “will mean a lot”.
“I might not be able to get certain things,” he added.
He said Imbert is “accustom coming through” to his area and previously received a hamper during a visit last year.
Imbert reported that they would be giving out 200 hampers with everything sponsored from “my pocket” or from “very kind people from the constituency” and not from the Government.
He explained that those receiving hampers were on a list and he relies on his staff “to tell me who are the poor and the underprivileged in the community and that is who we are going to give the hampers to on a list”.
He said there were a number of unregistered people waiting outside or “walk-in” clients and they would receive from what are left over.
He told Sunday Newsday that he always holds back about 50 hampers for them and “I feel glad that I can do that as well”.
“People who just come off the street here obviously they need it.
So I am glad that I can do this little thing for people at Christmas time. It makes me feel good as a Member of Parliament,” he added.
