Record $3m splurged on Yearling sales
BRITISH auctioneer Michael White’s hammer fell on the highest priced yearling since the inception of the Carib Brewery-sponsored Stud Farm Association Yearling Sale at Santa Rosa Park, Arima yesterday. When his hammer fell on Lot No 85, a bay colt by Freshly Squeezed/Romantic Princess, the price was a record-breaking $160,000. Prior to this, another Freshly Squeezed offspring out of Spellbound was purchased by top trainer Glenn Mendez.
This half-brother to both Witchcraft and Takeover, Lot No 37, fetched $145,000 which was the new record before Lot No 85. Last year, the hammer fell on a yearling by Gilgamesh/ Cre-scendo purchased for $143,000. A total of $3 million was splurged on the 87 lots which passed through the sales ring yesterday, which was another record.
