Hindus, Muslims decorate for Christmas

THE EDITOR: In today’s Newsday (November 30) someone wrote to the Editor saying that before Divali and Eid some business places were already decorated for Christmas, thus “ignoring the recognition of Divali and Eid.” What I would like to say is that many Hindu and Muslim homes were also decorated with “Christmas bulbs and streamers” for Divali and Eid and still are. These decorations will stay up until the feast of the Epiphany (Les Rois or Leh Wah) when all decorations are taken down. Driving around Trinidad any night between Divali and Christmas, the houses you see with the most lights are the Hindu homes whose lights are on from Divali to Christmas. So who is to say that the decorated business places do not belong to Hindu and Muslim Trinidadians. One Love.
