Illegal vendors fined $4,500

A TOTAL of $4,500 in fines were levied against illegal vendors who appeared before San Fernando Fourth Court Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan on Thursday. The vendors were charged with offering marketable commodities without a licence, pitching a stall and obstructing the footway of pedestrians. One vendor pleaded not guilty to the charge of offering a marketable commodity without a licence, while the others — 12 vendors — pleaded guilty. The illegal street vendors were arrested and charged on Wednesday by San Fernando City Police during an exercise aimed specifically at cracking down on illegal vending.
