Border Reivers take Carib 7s rugby title

BORDER REIVERS whipped Caribs I  31-12 at the St Mary’s College Ground, St Clair yesterday to capture the Carib Beer International Rugby Sevens title. The Scottish club won the title on four previous occasions —1991-1993 and 1999. On the way to the title, Border had eliminated pre-tournament favourites Atlantis of  the United States 27-17 in the semi-final phase while Caribs I trounced the West Indies Rugby Union (WIRU) outfit 29-0. As expected, Atlantis RFC completed a hat-trick of women’s crowns after they swept past Royalians 36-0. In the semis, Atlantis thrashed North/East Warriors 36-0 while Royalians edged Aesculapians 12-10.
