2020 means opportunity for all

THE EDITOR: This observation is based on the 2004 Prime Minister’s Best Village Queen contest and the lack of reasonable support and assistance to the community-based groups and the community they serve. This has to do with the communities that mirror South East Port-of-Spain area where there are no real time employment opportunities that would provide the financial capacity within which to be self-supportive. Hence the need for corporate donation and programme-by-programme assistance. It is important to note that, in developed and undeveloped countries, most corporations establish a moral commitment that provides the necessary financial contribution and other assistance to groups, that addresses the need for the underprivileged and displaced without prejudice or favour between the respective NGO’s or CBO’s.

In order to reach the well placed 20/20 vision, there is a need for a fairer distribution of the perceived wealth of the nation. Then there is the notion that the CBO/NGO that operate within the actual community that needs daily life survival assistance are not taken seriously nor treated with the requisite respect for their tireless work and resolute commitment toward the advancement of the community and the country as a whole. We all know that failure to provide the citizens with at least minimum opportunity to meet their basic human needs, will result in further deterioration and cultivation of an unacceptable option of increased crime and criminal activity that could reach unprecedented proportion, to the determent of all.
