New traffic plan in Scarborough
INITIAL scepticism has given way to acceptance, and yesterday motorists more or less welcomed the new temporary traffic plan instituted in Scarborough on Monday to ease congestion in the capital over the busy Christmas shopping season. “It is the best thing that could have happened”, one motorist told Newsday. This was in stark contrast to Monday when the move was described as “chaos” by several motorists.
It was somewhat confusing then, the first day of its implementation; but with road users growing accustomed to the changes, the consensus yesterday was that it had helped clear the chaotic traffic maze that was the order of the day in Scarborough. The temporary traffic plan, which has been termed an “experiment,” was introduced by the Tobago House of Assembly’s (THA) Division of Infrastructrure/Public Utilities in tandem with the Licensing Department and the Scarborough police. It will remain in force throughout the Christmas/New Year holiday period.
