Teenager limers at the malls

THE EDITOR: The Christmas holiday is almost upon us. Schoolchildren will surely converge in the malls. The malls will be overcrowded with hordes of youngsters with their low-rise jeans, waist-tied chains, bandana head wraps and oversized pants. It will be a noisy, crowded scene sometimes with skirmishes. At one mall in the east on weekends, almost all the tables in the food court are taken up by these limers who are neither eating nor going to the cinema.

The cinema is another story. There are ten advertisements before and ten after the movie previews. Movie goers are trapped in the cinemas and have to endure a dose of twenty advertisements. The cinema managers are also creating division and fostering ignorance in the society by refusing to show previews of Bollywood movies during Hollywood shows. As a non-Indian, I was deprived of seeing the preview of the blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which I had seen as a local play as a last resort.
