Rowley tells Tobagonians vote for the right people

AS THE PNM election machinery rolled into Tobago for the official launch of the party’s campaign in the 2005 Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections, Housing Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday appealed to Tobagonians to vote in people who would properly manage their future and not be “political flip-floppers.” Addressing the launch to a boisterous crowd, many of whom were decked off in red and waved flags and banners at the Signal Hill Comprehensive school, Rowley said the January 17 polls were not about resources but management and in this aspect, the PNM’s opponents were not up to the task.

“This is not flip-flop. We are the children of the balisier. Win, lose or draw we serve the people of Trinidad and Tobago with dignity and not this hop scotch nonsense,” Rowley thundered. He said the upcoming elections were “serious business” and predicted it could see the demise of the PNM’s opposition in Tobago. He said the NAR and DAC could not stand up to the PNM which  will turn 50 as a party in January 2006, and that a book is being written to commemorate this milestone. Rowley added, the book is aptly titled “50 not out.”

Predicting victory for the PNM on January 17, Rowley expressed confidence that Orville London and his team had the management capability to take Tobago “to another level.” Rowley also called on Tobagonians to honour veteran THA assemblyman William McKenzie for his years of devoted service to the sister isle. PNM Political Leader and Prime Minister Patrick Manning was not present at yesterday’s launch, having been laid low by the flu. He is however expected to address the party faithful in the sisterIsle soon.
