Bravo aims to win back Pizza Hut Trophy
WEST INDIES all-rounder Dwayne Bravo expressed satisfaction with North’s early grip on the annual Pizza Hut/Gerry Gomez Cricket Classic despite the rain-affected first day, at the Queen’s Park Oval, restricted to only one session play yesterday. He won the toss and asked Daren Ganga and his South team to take first strike on the moisture-laden strip which provided unpredictable bounce. South were 53 for three after 24 overs by the close. Skipper Daren Ganga (8) his younger brother Sherwin Ganga (4) and Gregory Mahabir (5) were dismissed cheaply and left South struggling. Leading the North team in place of flu-stricken Imran Jan, Bravo said: “It is always an honour to lead the North team.
“Many great players have been the captain of the team in the past and I am very honoured to be asked to do the job.” The Queen’s Park player who is still nursing slight shin splints on his right leg, disclosed that the game plan worked well for his team. He said: “Our plan was to win the toss and send in the South team. And as it happened, I won the toss and did as planned. “Our next target was to get the Ganga brothers (Daren and Sherwin) out cheaply and our bowlers did just that. So we are happy to get both of them out without South getting a big score.” But he lamented the rain affected them from taking further advantage of the conditions and to get South out for a small total. Bravo said his intention is to win back the trophy and said, “I really want to win back the trophy so we will be giving our best to get the job done.”
