SECURITY GUARD DIED FROM POISONING
The 20-year-old security guard — who was pronounced dead after he was found frothing at the mouth at Fort Milford, Crown Point, on Monday, was poisoned. A post mortem performed Friday by pathologist Dr Hughvon DesVignes, revealed that Gregory O’Brien died from “aspiration toxification” (poisoning). Samples of blood and stomach contents have been sent to the Forensic Science Centre for further testing.
Police are now treating O’Brien’s death as suspected homicide or possible suicide. O’Brien, who was originally from Moruga, had been employed as a guard with a security firm based in the western end of the island for about two weeks. He was officially listed as having no known address in Tobago; none of his former co-workers knew exactly where he had been staying in the island. O’Brien had reportedly worked the 6 pm (Sunday) 6 am (Monday) shift at a guesthouse in Crown Point and was said to have been dropped off in Scarborough by a driver with the security firm after he came off duty. Some two hours later, around 8.30 am, O’Brien was found frothing at Fort Milford by a passer-by. He was taken by an EHS ambulance to the Scarborough Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Detective Sgt Vincel Edwards, of Crown Point Police, is continuing investigations.
