Garcia: TT players stuck to basics
The Red Force Divas posted a score of 164 in 46 overs and, in response, Barbados were bowled out for 143 with 4.1 overs remaining.
“During the camp, the only team we studied, both bowling and batting, was Barbados,” said Garcia, during an interview upon the team’s return at the VIP Lounge, Piarco International Airport on Monday.
“In the final, seeing we didn’t accomplish our goals in the first game (a six-wicket loss to Barbados on April 19), all I reminded them was about sticking to the basics, playing our game really positive and playing the final to win, because you don’t just play a final.
“I told them ‘both teams have zero (points), who play the three areas better (will win).” Felicia “Jamie” Walters was named as the Player of the Match, having topscored with 53 and then taking three wickets for 25 runs. Asked if he was surprised by Walters’ performances, Garcia replied, “no”. He elaborated, “She has a very good defence and she has shots in areas where she can pick up singles and twos, and rotate the strike,” he added. “So she just had a simple role to play.”
