Pan moves ‘Point’

Now in its 37th year, the annual Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations culminates with a voracious blend of activities among them, tomorrow’s Pan on the Move.

Thousands of people are expected to make the trek “down south” for the annual celebration.

This year, 15 bands will participate in Pan-On-The-Move, with this year’s Panorama champions Massy Trinidad All Stars being among them.

Borough Day was launched on April 21 and saw a build-up of events to its main weekend.

Community spotlight which featured events such as church services, Tribute to Achievers and Vintage Meets Soca which ran from April 22 to 30.The Point Fortin community was treated to concerts such as Icons in the Sun and Genesis on April 28.

Not only was there entertainment but learning opportunities as well, as a Young Money: Entrepreneur Expo was also held. The build-up to this weekend also had the Mayor’s Anniversary Ball (April 29) and a military parade on April 28.

Sports featured heavily as well in the build-up with borough marathon, boxing and invitation junior swim meet being held.

But this weekend’s events start today with We Meet being held in the streets of Point Fortin from 6 pm followed by Band Concert at Victor Chin Kit Park from 6 pm as well.

Tomorrow, J’Ouvert bands such as Campus Boys, Colour Me J’Ouvert and Good Girls and Bad Boys and their revellers will fill the Point Fortin Streets at 4am. This year 33 bands have registered to participate in the celebrations. An after J’Ouvert Chill will be held at Agard Road from 10am. Traditional Mas then takes the spotlight at 2pm, parading through the Point Fortin Borough. The much anticipated Pan-On-The-Move then starts at 5pm. All bands will play at Market Square which is the central point of the parade.

On Sunday, the celebrations wind down with the Dragon Boat Festival at 10 am at the Guapo/ Clifton Hill Beach. Bedrock, an all-inclusive party, then follows the boat festival at Lake Asphalt/ La Brea from 3pm to 11pm.
