Ghost Meadow ready for Starter Allowance
GHOST MEADOW and Isle Be True signalled they are in peak condition for their Boxing Day engagements by lighting up the gallops course at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, with their speed yesterday morning. The duo, who are both entered in the Life Care Quantum Starter Allowance contest showed blinding speed to break the 36.00 seconds barrier for 600 metres in separate spins. Ghost Meadow gave a poor showing in the Trintrac Stewards Cup last raceday, and never got into the thick of things in the Grade 1 sprint contest. But the Rohit Dube-trained filly looking in immaculate condition sent a message that she is ready to redeem herself in Monday’s 1200 metres sprint with a 35.37 seconds clocking.
Isle Be True has come on for his races. The Chester Roberts inmate not fully punched out, showed his zip over the same distance in 35.99 seconds. Also showing up well over the same trip were Piece Of Cake and The Nightman. The Nightman who is set to face his baptism in the Guardian Life St James Stakes, is definitely on the upgrade. The sales-topper at last year’s Yearling Sale held on well to his more experienced stablemate when the tempo quickened from the top of the straight and appeared to only lose the fight by the bobbing of heads at the finish line. Flying Millie who is expected to be among the market leaders in the Guardian Life St Anns Stakes was another to have looked battle ready.
Jack Debideen’s filly went out with her raceday rider Ricardo Jadoo, who had her under restraint for the first 200 metres of her 600 metres spin timed in 40.40 seconds. Magen was the surprise package of the morning. The five-year-old which has changed trainers at least five time this season was full of life in posting 23.59 seconds for his run up the straight. Trainer Grant Lourenco seems to have closed up shop with Sugar Mike. The young trainer who knows how to get him right for the occasion had the Champion Stayer of last year only stretching his legs over 1000 metres in 1:13.42 seconds.
