UTT in search of young talent

The project which is being rolled out to 21 secondary and special schools in the coming weeks, will initially deploy the finest student musicians at UTT ’s Academy as a source of inspiration for schoolchildren to take the first steps into the performing arts.

As the programme develops, student actors, dancers and designers will follow.

Youngsters wanting to continue the journey after experiencing Searchlight at their schools will then soon be able to also participate in APA’s Searchlight Vacation Camp or join the upcoming Junior Academy for the Performing Arts.

For the May 9 launch of Searchlight at St Joseph’s Convent, Portof- Spain, APA presented its jazz combo led by assistant professor Aidan Chamberlain, while other schools and homes enjoyed a Heroes of Calypso show led by Krisson Joseph, programme co-ordinator at APA.

Schools participating in Searchlight will be visited bi-annually and from time to time be invited to bring their students to the UTT Campus at NAPA for special events.
