$.4M in marijuana seized

Officers also seized two guns, a quantity of ammunition and a magazine in the Morvant district during the same exercise.

The anti-crime initiative began at 1 pm on Tuesday and ended at 11 am yesterday.

It was coordinated by ACP Surujdeen Persad and supervised by Snr Supt Surendra Sagramsingh, ASP Sookar and Sgt Guelmo.

Other officers taking part included those from the CID, Task Force, Canine Unit and Coastal Patrol Unit.

According to reports, officers acting on information went to the forested area in Blanchieusse where they found 32 packets of marijuana weighing 16.4 kilos.

Officers believe that the marijuana came from Venezuela and was due to be picked up by a well-known drug trafficker from the Maracas area.

The same team of officers then went to Morvant where they seized a pistol, a revolver, four rounds of nine-millimetre calibre ammunition and a magazine in a bushy area. ACP Persad thanked members of the public for partnering with the police to provide key information on criminal activities within their communities.
