Volando Voy - You’d never understand
THE EDITOR: I certainly would never understand why so-called educated people — people who have lived and travelled abroad, would show such contempt for officers of the law who are trying their best to maintain law and order. What’s a little hypocrisy? A little lie and deception? The bible instructs us to be diligent in little things. It’s not the Enrons and their like who destroy a country — a nation — we can deal with them.
It’s the thousands and millions of ordinary citizens who tear at the underpinnings and fabric of their society every day by being dishonest, unfaithful to the spirit of good character, and untruthful to their inner selves yet complain that the world is slowly sliding down the toilet. When I was in primary school my teacher told her students a story of a boy who stole pins and as time went by he worked his way upwards until he stole a tramcar and was sent to jail. She ended her story with the moral “If you did not touch a pin you would not end up stealing a tramcar.” If the writer had made the same manoeuver in one of the Southern States of America and being a non-white, was dragged out of her car, man-handled and bundled down to the police station and strip searched. Boy she would be screaming bloody murder.
The law is the law and it must be respected and obeyed both in one’s own country and abroad. If people, instead of complaining about the present state of society, would strive within their little circle to do what was right and acceptable, this world would be a happier place. Imagine what our world would be like if there were no religion, no bibles or no wise old men to guide us. Could you imagine??
