Woman fined for assault during BWIA luggage problems
A woman yesterday appeared before Arima Court Magistrate Reynold Waldrop charged with obscene language and assault of a Customs and Excise officer which she pleaded guilty for and was ordered to pay a fine. Parbatie Sohan, was fined a total of $2,250 or will serve four months hard labour for obscene language and assaulting Alan Alexander in the performance of his duty at the baggage room of the Piarco International Airport. According to reports Sohan arrived from New York on December 22 minus her luggage. And was told to return on December 24 to collect it, which she did.
On entering the baggage room which had been in the news recently for delays in luggage collection, Sohan began experiencing problems in getting her things and began cursing. When she was approached by an officer to leave, she assaulted him. The angry woman was then escorted to the security office where she was charged. Customs and Excise officer Derrick Alleyne laid the charge.
