Reflections on Christ
THE EDITOR: He’s no longer an innocent, he’s older and wiser now. Don’t take things at face value, He searches the heart for motives. Knows good from evil, distinguishes friend from foe, Isn’t fooled by lip service, worship must come from the heart. He travelled the rough road of vagrancy, communed in cold mountains under the stars. Felt the cruel whip of discrimination, eked out an existence outside the system, came face to face with the enemy, refused to bow down and stroke his ego.
Was tempted and tried but never succumbed to fleshly lusts. He learned the Truth the hard way, experienced the treachery of hypocrisy. Exposed the many falsehoods of those who don’t practise what they preach. Enlightened grassroots crowds, empowered them to take up their beds and walk. Spread the Good News that love, joy and peace, the Kingdom of Heaven was within the heart. He tasted the sour grapes of love’s rejection, the bitterness of the betrayal kiss.
Experienced the loneliness of abandonment, the devastation of denial by his own. Bore the heavy cross of the scapegoat, the agony of being falsely accused. Heard the same voices that sang his praises shout “crucify him” with the crowd. He’s now seated in the highest place, all power is in His hands. Those who seek Him early will find Him after searching with all their heart. Don’t look within look around, love your neighbour as yourself.
