Police audit extended to Dec 31

This is according to Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon, who told Parliament Wednesday, in response to a question, that the committee was carrying out its mandate having been given an extension.

The committee was appointed in January and mandated to submit a report to Cabinet by March 31. The committee presented a status report on March 28, outlining the work it had undertaken along with major preliminary findings, Dillon said. It also proposed a schedule on how it would fulfil its mandate.

The committee, he said, recommended revised terms of reference which divided the exercise into three phases — analysis, design and implementation.

Cabinet approved the status report and revised terms of reference, Dillon said, and also agreed to extend the life of the committee for a ninemonth period with effect from April 1.

As of May 31, the committee, he said, was pursuing phase one of the exercise which includes “intense data gathering” and examining the current operational environment of the TTPS.

He said the committee was also looking at the effectiveness of policies, practices and procedures, community level perception of the Police Service, and conducting consultations with various stakeholders to identify core and emerging issues of the public and the TTPS.
