Slackness in OJT

THE EDITOR: I am sure that those who have had a good Christmas were able to do so because we had some money to spend on ourselves and those we care about. It is sad that those who are working under the OJT programme have to suffer so much that they are unable to procure their hard earned money so that they could have had a better holiday.

There are so many silly errors incurred by the Ministry of Science and Technology which result in these young hardworking people suffering. Imagine one candidate has not received her stipend for September and October because of a spelling error. Others are still battering the doors of the ministry in the hopes that they would be told that their cheques will be ready. Cheques for two months still have not been processed. Isn’t it enough that these young impressionable humans (a fact some seem to ignore) are not to receive any accumulative benefits from the programme, but only to work and gain experience, will also be given a first hand taste of the public service ineffectiveness? I would like to call on the authorities who can speed up the process to do so.

I hope Minister Imbert is alerted about his ministry’s fecklessness and can harness better resources to ensure a smoother process to pay these people. They suffer so much, please do not add to it. It can deter these youngsters to other employment, as they lose faith in an already faithless society.  Banditry, which pays instantly when executed properly, is rewarding. Then who do we blame?
