Chaguanas Mayor wants pace to accelerate

Chaguanas Mayor, Dr Surujrattan Rambachan, said he wants to accelerate the pace of development in the central borough. “This is one of our major objectives for 2005 if we are to deliver quality service to burgesses,” he said in an interview. He said, “We would like to be recorded as one of the fastest growing corporations in the country in terms, not only of commerce, but also as far as quality dispensation is concerned.” The Mayor said that  he was looking forward to the completion of the Municipal Police Station   for which  a contract has already been awarded.

He explained that there is a dispute between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning as to whose responsibility it is, noting that  this was delaying the start of the project. With respect to the erection of the new Town Hall, Dr Rambachan said this should be completed  this year. “For too long we have been operating in a cramped environment and it is time that we keep pace with our progress and development as a Borough,” the Mayor said. Dr Rambachan said that next week he would be holding meetings with the business community to  review business activity during the Christmas season as well as  security arrangements for 2005. Former Capt Gary Griffith has been asked to submit a proposal to beef up security in the area, he said.
