Cali Gray shows ‘wicked’ side

The Trinidad-born singer with the distinctive raspy vocals gets raunchy on the bouncy Selectah Kern (Keron Cadette) and Mr Spine (Shawn Stewart) produced track.

Cali Gray, real name Calika Grayson, delivers an eyebrow- raising performance on Wicked music video produced by Ahtik Studios. The saucy performer leads a talented team of female dancers in a demonstration of the intricate waist rotations and hip gyrations required to execute a “wicked wine”.

“Watch Cali how she workin’ it/ Two leg spread out and she twerkin’ it/ and she bruck up she back reversin’ it/ wake yuh ting from di dead, hearse in it/and she bounce, bounce, bounce on it,” she sings.

In a media release she states: “This song is for the ladies. We are confident and proud of the many shapes and sizes our bodies come in and when we reach on the dance floor we celebrate that without apology. Is up to the guys to decide if they can handle it.” Gray, the daughter of the popular DJ Kabuki (Kevin Grayson) and dancer Annmarie George, made her debut in 2014 with the soca song All Over, jointly written Kareem “Rayza” Thomas and herself and produced by Kevin “Stadic” Charles. In 2016 the same combination created Happy which enjoyed heavy rotation during the Carnival season. She followed up in 2017 with Rum Power and Ah Love it with New York-based producer Andre “Mysta Lyon” Simon.

Cali Gray marries an intense passion for performing with a keen interest in preserving and passing on the culture of TT .

Apart from writing and performing she also currently plays and teaches pan to children.

“We have to start at the foundation to build anything. It’s important to know the history and to actively maintain tradition while developing as an artiste. I love my country. I love our rich culture and I’m here to make a meaningful contribution,” she said.
