Walcott fifth at Monaco Diamond League

Walcott threw the spear 80.15 metres on his fifth attempt which could not get him on the podium.

That effort was below his best mark this season of 86.61m.

Walcott fouled his first attempt, threw 79.72m on his second, fouled his third, threw 79.61m on his fourth and 77.10m on his sixth and final throw. Olympic champion Thomas Rohler of Germany won gold with a top effort of 89.17m.

Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic grabbed silver with an 85.43m throw, just ahead of German Johannes Vetter who threw 85.14m. Ahmed Bader Magour of Qatar was fourth with a top throw of 81.61m.

The Monaco Diamond League is the final Diamond League meet before the 2017 London World Championships which takes place from August 4 to 13.
