TV6 producer charged with cursing police
A Caribbean Communications Network (TV6) producer will appear today before a Port-of-Spain magistrate charged with using obscene language and assaulting a police officer. According to reports, Constable Hoyte of the Court and Process Branch in Port-of-Spain was about to drive off in an unmarked police car at the Charlotte Street and Independence Square intersection around 1 pm yesterday, when the young producer walked in front of the vehicle. The traffic light was on green at the time and the officer began to blow his horn to which the producer responded by cursing.
When he informed her that he was a police man, The Morning Edition producer called him an “imps” and continued cursing, while slamming her hand against the unmarked police car. With the assistance of two soldiers nearby, the officer proceeded to arrest the woman. During the confrontation, someone spat on the officer’s cap and face. The protesting producer was taken to the Besson Street Police Station where she was charged with the two offences. She was placed on $500 bail. Sources confirmed that the foreign-born producer is also alleging that she was assaulted at the station by an officer. Cpl Ali laid the charge.
