TT girls beach soccer squad clinch gold at Commonwealth Youth
TT won the contest 5-4 to win this country’s third medal of the championships. It was a change of fortunes after Jamaica defeated TT 5-2 in a preliminary match earlier in the competition. Adell Colthrust won this country’s first medal at the championships when he won the boys 100-metre final on Thursday.
Yesterday, Jeron Thompson won TT’s second medal when he copped bronze in the boys 50m freestyle. Thompson touched the wall in 23.43 seconds behind Kyle Abeysinghe of Sri Lanka in 23.38 and Alexander Mclay of Scotland in 23.10. Mclay and Abeysinghe were also first and second in the boys 100m freestyle final on Thursday.
Earlier, Thompson qualified for the 50m final after finishing second in heat four in 23.68. Mclay won the heat in 23.22. Up to press time yesterday, TT were playing St Lucia in the boys beach soccer gold medal match.
Today, TT Carifta champion Tyriq Horsford will compete in the boys javelin on the final day of competition.
