Two jailed for stealing pipes

Stephen Jaggernauth, 35; Jimmy Lallo, 38; Satrohan Ramlakhan, 35; and a 16-year-old boy all of Pluck Road in Woodland, appeared before Senior Magistrate Cheryl- Ann Antoine charged with larceny of seven lengths of steel pipes on July 5, being the property of the National Infrastructure Development Company (Nidco).

The magistrate heard that at about 4.30 am, Constables Avidesh Narine and Utam Ramdass of the Southern Division Task Force, were on patrol along Pluck Road in Woodland, when they spotted four persons carrying away pipes. When the four could not give an account as to how they came into possession of the pipes, the four were arrested.

Court prosecutor Cleyon Seedan said a check later revealed the pipes belonged to Nidco and are valued $15,000.

After all pleaded guilty, Magistrate Antoine sentenced both Lallo and Ramlakhan to each serve nine months’ in prison with hard labour.

Jaggernauth was fined $4,000 to be paid forthwith while the magistrate placed the 16-yearold accused on a bond in the sum of $5,000 to keep the peace for three years.
