Man in court for teen’s murder

Sinanan appeared before Magistrate Margaret Alert in the First Court to answer a charge that on July 16, along the Southern A Main Road in South Oropouche, he murdered Sancaro.

The charge was laid indictably by Sgt Adesh Gookool and the accused was not called upon to enter a plea.

The charge stated that Sancaro was assaulted and struck by a vehicle.

An autopsy showed he died as a result of massive cranial trauma. Attorney Dane Halls, who represented Sinanan, asked for disclosure and requested extracts from the diary of the Oropouche Police Station.

Halls told the magistrate there was a lot of misinformation in the media that was presented to the public surrounding the case of his client.

“The media reports are misleading and inaccurate,” Halls told Magistrate Alert.

“I want to ask the court to assist in reminding the media about the potential of misleading information (being presented),” the attorney stated. The magistrate noted his concerns and further told the attorney that she believes the media is aware what information can be reported on and what information is sub-judice. The case was adjourned to August 21.

Speaking after the case was adjourned, attorney Halls said his client has been receiving threats via the social media. Halls called for balanced reporting of the case so as not to prejudice his client. Halls said he intends to write to the Commissioner of Prisons regarding the safety of his client while he is incarcerated.
