At present only 60 percent of the containers are checked.
And the reason why 100 percent of these containers are not scanned is because of resistance from the Public Services Association.
The port is extremely labour- intensive with the unions having a strong hand in why this is so.
It was also revealed that a company owned by one of the unions operates the container examination section.
As David Rudder put in song some years ago, “somebody letting the cocaine pass.” I guess we can now add “somebody letting the guns pass” to the chorus.
